John Horsfield Memorial Bench

Don't know which photo to send you - it is a very
scenic spot and I had wonderful weather in which to climb up to the bench,
though I had to skirt round some cows and calves in the first field and Charlie
did not like the long grass and bracken so I had to send Spike back for
him. The dogs are looking down on a field of sheep in the valley between
the first cliff and this steep hill.

Poppa's Memorial Bench

The National Trust have erected a memorial bench for
Poppa on the Golden Cap estate in Dorset. The Bench is
on the South West Coast path between Seatowm and
Thorncombe Beacon. It is half way up the steep climb
to Dog House Hill,(the second hill going east from
Seatown) and enjoys glorious views inland and out to
sea. The bench is made from a wind blown Oak tree from
the Golden Cap Estate. Sadly we not permitted to have
a plaque or engraving onthe bench, but we will know
that it is Poppa's bench!
It would be nice to have a grand family walk to it
sometime.
However when you are next in Chideock try and visit it
and enjoy the views and welcome respite. It is a very
steep hill!
